Meet Karyn Beach
As the daughter of a high school history teacher and an elementary school principal, the passion for learning was instilled in me early. The desire to work with kids was not!
I have been working in the field of learning and development throughout this century. I started as a corporate trainer, conducting new hire and refresher trainings, Microsoft Office applications training and learning and instructing on proprietary systems.
After a decade, I made the move from corporate trainer to instructional designer. Having learned adult learning principles in action in the classroom, I took this knowledge and applied it to the courses I created. As a result, my courses are based on real world scenarios, what is needed to know (as opposed to nice to know) and feature a variety of interactive components that involve the learner.
When I started as an instructional designer, the e-learning application of choice was Captivate. I learned it quickly. Since then, I have mastered Articulate, Storyline, Rise360 and Camtasia.
Additionally, I also realize that e-learning isn't the only tool in the instructional designer’s arsenal. Since my days as a corporate trainer, I have created user guides, facilitator guides, handouts, presentations, quick reference guides and job aids.
Personally, I wouldn't have spent over 20 years in this field if I didn't love it. I think working in a field that you have a passion for is always a plus.
Former coworkers will tell you that I am reliable, dependable, and easy to work with. I believe in teamwork and supporting my teammates whenever possible.
(I have to add that I am an avid home cook - a benefit for potlucks. I have been known to show up on a random Tuesday with homemade cookies or my world-class banana pudding.)
